A Notorious Trifle, The Weather.

The creeping green has taken hold, and Summer has taken us by surprise.
So although the clouds may roll and threaten with thunderous yellow light
we stand our ground. We do.

So that even when it darkens and blows, we don't hold our breath and wait for the inevitable rain, because there is merit in learning the art of ignoring the weather at a young age.
For when you live in a temperate isle like ours that is what we do. And we perfect the art of pretending we don't!

So, we talk about the weather a lot, as it changes and sweeps and blows around us, never deciding what it is, whether one thing or another, but never ever giving in to it.

Which is why we will never dress for it. Because the Irish will never admit someone else was right. And we will look a raincloud in the eye and shake our heads and say 'Not at all. Sure a t-shirt will do just fine...'

And of course, often, half an hour later (though soaked to the skin) we are right...

The changes in sky are stunning--so beautiful, and you have the art to capture them both in picture and in words. Thank you.

The weather, as it rolls, does paint a beautiful picture in your sky. :)

They say here where I live in Canada, that we can experience all seasons in one day. We rarely listen to a weather report, as they are of no use really. Oh that silly weather. :)

Even the storms are beautiful in your photos.
When you live with the rain - and we do here in Vancouver - you do have a different relationship with the weather. And, Sara is right, we never pay any attention to forecasts. Just go outside and do what you want to do..."a T-shirt will be fine".

The last photo was just a sky to want to watch till it all goes to night...then you listen...and wait...and think about what you just saw.

Great post! When we complain about the weather, we may as well be complaining about life itself. Even the forecasters have bought into the game, sharing a predictable disappointment when the clouds appear.

Take it as it comes and make the most of it. Your attitude is a wonderful example to us all, Ciara.

Here on Vancouver Island, our weather is much like yours and, yes, we Canadians are obsessed with the topic of weather! I'm so glad your summer is a real summer this year. When my daughter was living in Dublin 2 years ago, they had a shite summer. This is what we are getting this year...but alas...there is never bad weather, just the wrong clothing! Lovely photos by the way.

The weather indeed - the wind has just blown all the petals from our roses and lashed salt from the sea against our western windows. And here we huddle within ever-hopeful in our SPF30. Your photos are beautiful, and the bunting is an inspired touch.

Wow, those skies are beautiful.

I have to admit I am a ridiculous optimist and never ever carry an umbrella. Mad living here I know and I got caught out in more than one ridiculously heavy downpour last summer!

Yes, Ciara, "a T-shirt will be fine" is a good mentality here, cos if you ever let the weather get the better of you, you'd live a restricted life, wouldn't you?
I tell myself, "it's only water"! Wonderful pictures, the one with black clouds looks as though the clouds have come down onto the ground.

Gosh, what atmoshpere these photos convey - that perfect slightly wild weather look, which is one of my favourite types of weather. Looking at your stunning photos makes me want to jump right into them and be there in that moment!

Ah, you are helping me to understand my husband, who is half Irish, half Scottish. He never dresses appropriately!
Love the pictures.

Well, now I know my dad is more Irish than anything. He loved our heritage and taught his children to do so too. Unfortunately, he passed away several years back. Our dream is to take a trip as siblings (there's now only four of us-one passed away this year) We truly need to work on that. Until then I shall enjoy your posts.
Thanks so much,
Kathy

Ah!I've just been through our second, or is it third? Thunderstorm of the day and am LOVING IT! Your images are evocotive and transportative.
I'm so glad "a year" is BACK. ('specially since I appear to be too, almost, and can enjoy it!) I love what you say about being Irish and defying the Weatherman! I so often (usually) step out without an umbrella and when I'm walking through a downpour with others who offer to share will more often than not say "no thanks, I have Irish hair. It's weatherproof!"

Here comes more lightening... a nice, moody night.

I hope your summer is every bit as enchanting as it seems!
