My Equinox Baby.

My Equinox Baby, now you are three!!
I wonder what it is about being the Smallest?

That requires you to be the one who draws on walls?
The one who pulls pages out of books, and decides
it would be a splendid idea to put the whole, entire loo roll down the loo?
The one who quietly, meticulously deconstructs your brothers lego creations?
And the one who swung the kitten by his tail?

And all done with the sweetest, most angelic face,
those big blue eyes that melt your heart.
How can we ever, ever be cross?
Because it wasn't you!
No, you tell us it's the other boy,
a mysterious other boy named 'Lukey'.

But it's your kindness with your friends,
your sweet disposition that tends towards giggles
and a desire to have fun!
Your insatiable appetite for for figuring out the world.
These are the things that we love about you,
the things that make us all agree
you have to be The Cutest Thing On Two Legs!
Happy Birthday B!

And now to mix it up a little,
because things have not been usual here for the last little while:
our week in pictures!

A walk on Wednesday, after the parade
saw us lost in our very own town!
Quite enjoyable, though too much for some little legs.

A small town parade, reminds me of how it used to be for us as kids.

The quiet sounds of hungry children eating,
humming through their munching, like crickets,
spoons scraping against bowls.

Her slow progress through her food is
lost in medieval courts and words.

Out walking we found these little pieces of someone's story.
Someone's childhood.

Impossible blue.

How could I forget the funfair!!

Oh, Happy Birthday to B!! And to Lukey as well, of course.

Wonderful pictures...of course I got a crick in my neck attempting to see what she was reading!!

I believe it's the latest Lady Grace Mystery she's reading, Pamela!

That took me back...reading at the table while devouring beans on toast. And the hands on the a prehistoric cave.
The birthday must be happy with a sweet cake like that.

I wonder what it is about being the Smallest?

It's all a great big science experiment to them. The things we take for granted, like gravity and the laws of motion, it's all still new - so they need to find out for themselves whether entire rolls of toilet paper can fit in the toilet, and how everything sounds when it gets dropped, and whether cats can fly in the proper circumstances...

Happy B-day :)

Ahhhhh...I'm thinking maybe she's a bit like her mum, don't you think? Such a darling little sprite. Children eating...the fierce concentration of getting spoon to mouth. Blue...impossible blue. It's enough to take your breath away, when it's been missing a while.

Miss B sounds like she has a lively spirit, and lucky for her and all who love her. Happy Birthday!

I can relate to this. My youngest is a spirited little girl who gets away with murder because of her angelic face and giggle!

Such a wealth of beautiful photos and sweet words. Happy Birthday to your little third! I always say that my youngest has been dessert -- a very wild and nutty dessert, but definitely dessert!

A heartfelt post to lift the spirits. Happy Birthday B!

Happy birthday, B! My own little one is only a few days behind, and it's a wonderful age. They still haven't quite realised that something they give lessens their own stock. And bless the reading eater, or the eating reader.

How glorious to be three, and to have a cake like that! Happy birthday to B.

I love all your pictures, but especially the orange fingernails reading through the beans. This was me... several children's books pay testament to this with various food-related smudges. Reading and eating speghetti was particulary ill-advised, I think. :)

Happy Birthday B and plenty of 'em!

My youngest son also blamed an imaginary friend on his wrongdoings. I seem to remember crayon on wallpaper and inside books. Like B he had a very cute face and lovely nature and therefore learnt to charm his way through life.

Your photos always make me want to come visit you! They also inspire me as they are simply so *real* and it makes me feel like you are so appreciative of your life. Love that!

Happy Birthday to B! Three, I have always believed, is a magical age, a breakout age, an age of newfound independence.

I always love your photos, Ciara, but these just make my heart feel warmer today--and oh, that carousel!

That photo of your daughter's book could be me at any age, including the beans and bread, one of my favorite eating-alone meals. I'm guessing it could be you, too! Sigh.

Hope your writing is going well, by the way. I am working furiously on my book, which is both frightening and fun. Fun because I love the characters, and scary because I have no idea if anyone else will!

Happy week! xo
