Tomorrow we return to school, and routine, and driving every day.
There will be lunches to be made and shoes to be found.
And as the weeks progress there'll be coats and wooly jumpers,
and in the evening we'll light the fire and 'baton down the hatches'.
So last night we gathered our friends together,
and we lit a fire,
and celebrated the Summer's end.
In a little pocket of sun
amidst the cooling mist and rain.
And though there will no doubt be days when the Autumn forgets itself,
and gives us a day at the beach
or a warm wind in the morning,
we know this next fragment of path is the one that is scattered
with swirling leaves, and groans with sneaky winds.
And 'the door of winter stands ajar...'
Welcome.
Welcome.

What a lovely way to celebrate the end of Summer. The sky is beautiful in those pictures.
Welcome Autumn. I am looking forward to it. xx
Ushering in my favourite time of year. I said farewell to summer myself this week.
It was a great gathering. A welcome easing into the new school year for the intrepid scholars!
A poignant way of passage, beautifully illustrated.
Thank you for easing the coming transition... I have a teen beginning high school next week! Sometimes I just want to run away with him... give him and us a year off to go abroad... start a band... or some tother thing with fewer cares. In never never land perhaps.
I hear there is a $300 round trip ticket to Ireland out this month...*sigh*
;)
have a very good new school year, exciting times, playschool for the little one, secundary school for the big one... and maybe a bit more time for yourself and your great proyects, good luck! xx

Oh - we're missing summer already - so fleeting and so busy...
Sounds like a wonderful way to end summer. Here, the days are still sweltering, but night is falling sooner and in the evenings there are a couple of sweet hours of cool fall freshness.
