What Has Passed.

After all, this is Ireland isn't it?

The rains returned. And not alone. They brought the cold with them. And we are now shivering and slopping around in the wet. On the street, people are holding up, holding on to the fallacy that is the Irish summer, legs and arms bared.

This morning I stood in the bathroom and listened to the sea groaning, and the sudden tapping of rain on the window...

But you know, I always reserve a little hope myself.

And I hold onto the memory of recent real sunshine, of lying in the whispering grass,

Of sunlight following me into the house, shimmering on my walls,

And at the end of the day, the softness of the air, sweet with roses, with just a hint of salty sharpness..

I hope you have sunshine wherever you are this weekend! And send some our way please?

We live in the lovely south east of the US and it's been pouring rain on and off since last night. Only it doesn't get cool with it - it stays hot and gets super humid...But the sun is bound to come out again! :) Silke

The forecast is not too bad. Think of all the jobs for the umbrella & wellie makers

Oh, I am with you. Over here we have had rain, and sun... But mostly TORRENTIAL rain, thunder, hail, lightning... and COLD. For well over a week. And no fireflies! But in between, beautiful clouds, blue sky peeking through... I am trying to be grateful, as usually our spring is so short, and we are typically sweltering and humid by now. But the cold... the spiders are spinning their early October webs, only ugly ones... and the weird bugs that are confused and coming in out of the wet! The grass all squelches and sprays up when we walk. Still, I know this too shall pass...

Take heart!

I adore the photo of the bikes in the grass.....

I think I secretly love the cold, I get to wear my boots. Then my feet feel so at home. Weird... But I can pass on the rain.

Ever since I moved here, it hasn't ceased to amazed me how obsessed with weather Irish people are.

I was born and raised on a hot, humid, scorching meditarrean island.. with barely any green at all, no rolling hills, no tall trees.. just low shrubbery in sparse rocky, thorny places in between the dense urbanisation.. and heat so terrible you simply cannot stand to be outside in it, sapping the fun out of everything...

So I am not a fan of sunshine you see.. I love the moodiness of Ireland. There is poetryt to it.. not to mention that it makes the sunlight mean something, when it comes...

It is only so green and splendid and beautiful here because of all the rain.. without this rain, the sun would just be shining on ugly low shrubs and dry river banks, car rides would be unbearable, long walks avoided.

I LOVE the Irish weather.. it makes so much sense.
