And Frost Did Come And Nip Their Toes...

My view where I gratefully stand each morning to greet the day, coffee cup in hand...!

Well, the cold snap continues, and we awake each morning to a frosty garden, and snowy mountaintops in the distance.

Back to school on Thursday, so in the meantime we'll wait it out, with cups of tea and cocoa, and pajama days, snuggled up on the couch by the fire, with soothing music to match our quiet contemplation.

All to soon we'll be back into the maelstrom.

But for now we are happy to hibernate here and eke a bit more out of Christmas.

At least for the next few days.

Do take a little peek over on ~Carnival~ if you'd like to hear who I've been listening to.

Scout's back in school now and I'm back at work - so our cozy little and much enjoyed vacation is over...

Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2010!

Lovely photo - it captures the mood of early morning and looking at the cold outdoors from a cozy indoors.

I'm easing back into work and studies now after a short break, and I miss being with family; I also miss the couple of days I spent wandering around in a city well-known to me. Hang onto these precious days as long as you can :)

Oh you are lucky indeed to have such a view...and a fireplace! I have a view only of snowy rooftops and am sadly without a hearth...wonderful in warm weather but decidedly sad when it is frigid out. Enjoy the last days of the holiday, it sounds like you are making the most of it!

How beautiful a view, but to be looking from inside with warmth, perfect. It sure looks cold.

The light in this photo is exquisite Ciara...so glowy and warm.

We are having the same weather here. Unbelievably cold. I have to confess, I adore it. Never so happier than out today, hood up, hands gloved, feet booted! The Best! And now, for a cup of Horlicks!!

That view thru the window looks so serene; I think it should be a painting.

Hello there Ciara
Lovely photo...my poor garden (the tiny patch that it is) is also frosted & I stand at my kitchen window looking out at it in the mornings...cup in hand!
We have been doing the same, spending quiet days at home before school starts again thursday.
Keep warm & enjoy the time with your family

happy wintering!

Beautiful image Ciara. I haven't ventured out much, been here cosy and warm. Roads are lethal outside our house. Boys back on Thurs too, so the cosiness will change to quietness in my world if the snow doesn't prevent normality returning!
Enjoy the last of it...

Ah it's lovely to have a ritual viewing of the day from the window. Same here, the last few days of calm before it all gets hectic again, and the effect is enhanced by staying in and using available ingredients rather than struggling to the shops. It's probably the nearest thing to hibernation that we can get away with.

The holidays have past and the time for cozy, relaxing days till your children head back to school, playing with Christmas gifts. My son went back yesterday and the quiet hits the home. Your view is lovely and the photograph a story itself...thank you for the vision.

Oh, Ciara, that photo made me sigh--it's perfect. We were living on an island all fall, and I had a view every morning that took my breath away. You've made me long for it again, but now that we're back in the city, I have to admit that I love my gritty, old industrial view, too. Your photos are truly lovely, my friend. xo

Lovely photo & caption.

If this is global warming, what will we do when it turns cold?

Beautiful photo, I'd love to wake up to that outside my door! Have you had much snow?

Your photo is more of a painting - just beautiful. I am getting more and more curious about the book displayed on your blog...

I was doing just what you describe with my household - last week. It was wonderful.

Ciara, I love this picture, and also the picture you paint in words.
It's exactly what we've been doing here, letting the snow extend the Christmas, and slow down the pace. Now if we could get a directive to leave the schools closed for the rest of the week??

Thank you all for your sweet words! I love how we are all doing the same thing, all around the world. Holding on the that holiday feeling as long as possible.

Lenny, we have had snow but it doesn't really stick. We're too near the sea, all that salt I guess. But from the village inland it's snowy and icy, and the roads have been treacherous.

Rebecca S. do take a peek at the book by clicking on the badge, or even better, head on over to A Year At My Back Door blog to see the whole year of photos. It's having a make-over at the mo, as I'm changing it over to the bigger format I'm now using here. You'll find the link just below the slideshow below!

Mimi, the rest of the week off would be great!

I am skipping about your blog a little, and have no idea if you will see this comment, but that photograph above is just blissful.

I actually find your blog is so very restful - there's a comfort and soothing element to your posts that sort of sings to my soul! And even though my world is so very different, I like to think that maybe one day I'll be able to attain that sense of melodic peace that seems to radiate from your words. It's a very lovely quality to have. :)
