After The Rain We Took A Lonely Walk.

In the grey,
a winter's day,

the quiet sound of our footsteps
on wet.

Up the lane.
And the stark lonely trees,
cut out against the clouds,
loom like desolate, friendless wraiths.

And the fields so quiet.
The skies a strange, empty hush.

And then, in the distance we see a herd of twenty horses
at full gallop,
their riders lying against their backs it seemed,
as though listening to their heartbeats.

Flying through the fields. Flying!

And my heart beats. My heart beats.

Wins out over the quiet fields, beyond the oppressing gloom,
and above the unnatural silence that rings in the air.

And there it is,
what we were missing.

Something like the breath of the forest,
the breathing trees.

A murmur in our ear, whispered close against our skin.

And so, together we walk on,
a faint brightness clinging to the light on the trees ahead.

It is good to get back to nature once in a while; to feel the wind, the moist leaves and the trees.

So melancholy and beautiful.

Thank you for your lovely words and photos.

I'm not sure blog posts such as this are really meant to be critiqued.

Beautiful, Ciara. Where did you go? The trees are so gorgeous. The shapes and colours and light in that last photo... where are the elves hiding?

Jo, we were around the corner from you!

Kilruddery. I'm always amazed that it's there, right on the edge of town and almost forgotten.

Lovley pics, lovley words....

If I offended you Ciara, with my 'critique', I apologize . I just believed that with the great images of this piece, the word lonely just didn't fit. Yet, this is yours, thank you for sharing.

I was noticing today how different the landscape is without all the foliage. There is a spacious, gentle starkness to it. I find I love November for that.

Lovely photos.

Your photos remind me so much of where I live (rurally). The Autumn is my favourite season and Winter is my second favourite (I love the snow) so I'm usually set for the next five months! I love how you express each part of your walk. I remember galloping on a horse a couple of years ago and it was a feeling of elation! Beautiful post, Ciara!

This is immaculate in assigning a mood to the soul.
Reminds me of the book Enchantment by Orson Scott Card.

Ciara

We realise how precious the heart is when expression of this quality is produced. Thank you.

Thank you all for your sweet words! It's no wonder autumn is a universal favourite.

Bryan, you didn't offend me! It started out feeling lonely because of my state of mind, but nature has a way, doesn't it?

Your beautifully carved words and haunting photos carry us with you into that lonely walk, and with you, we find the grace of the living trees. A lovely journey.

Your blog reminds me of what I felt Waldorf education gave to the souls of my children. They are grown and gone but your words and photos revitalise me. My completely different blog can and does have some lovely photos as well of life in the mountains...but the blog is form a dog's point of view so not poetic like yours, it is for light-hearted moments rather than introspection. telluridedogblog.blogspot.com

I think your loneliness is down to your dreadful poetry. Perhaps, if you were to stop you may have had a blog called 'After a Slight Downpour, a Cheerful Gander in the Woods'. It still would have been crap though

There is sadness and hope in this piece. And a sense that, even in the midst of raw pain, life does indeed go on.
