Somehow, we know. Although we still awake some mornings to hot summery days that bathe us in sunlight, we still pause and take note of the gathering birds that flock and swoop and dive in the air above us, and the sudden cloudbursts that come literally out of the blue.
And then, the grey days that drown in unrelenting rain, falling down the hills with nowhere else to go, reminding us that yes, Autumn is on it's way.
But Summer she is tenacious.

Tenacious? Yes, I would say so. Edward is simply refusing to go outside today. It's like a steam bath!

These dying days of summer heat have such a sad feel to me. Not my sadness because after the heat, cool is very welcome. No, it's the sun's sadness at getting ready to journey south again. It's the ripening fruit and endings of summer friendships.

ReplyDeleteI love this play, this tug-o-war right at the end of summer. Today here was warm and intensely sunny in the morning, cloudy and cooling but sticky in the afternoon, and tonight has the slight chill of late September. It's moody weather, and I love it!

ReplyDeleteI was in that same museum a week ago, but my unpoetic heart never thought to fit the experience into the summerscape, but rather looked urgently above all the Spanish heads for the blessed green EXIT. You've placed 'tenacious' perfectly.

As a child I was always in awe when my mother said fall is coming. Hoow did she know I wondered? She could feel it in the air and the animals talked to her. I see now that knowing the seasons will pass is a part of life that makes us hold dear each one as it slips away. Beautiful photos. What a diverse summer you are having!
